Joseph Heslin Foundation:
The Joseph Heslin Foundation is a non-profit foundation which raises money for scholarships in the memory
of Joseph Heslin, a long-time teacher and coach. Joe was a dedicated Biology Teacher and Baseball
Coach at Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Washington, from the day it opened in 1957 until his
retirement a quarter century later. He had a powerful influence on thousands of young people during his
career. After Joe's untimely death at the age 58, Steve and Karen established a scholarship in his name
in 1987. Steve collected pledges for the Joseph Heslin Foundation when he completed the Leadville Trail
100 Mile Ultramarathon in 1990 and when he ran in the Vermont 100 Mile Ultramarathon in 2004. This
scholarship is given annually to a Shadle Park High School senior who is planning to major in biology
and/or education in college. The Joseph Heslin Foundation is a non-profit organization classified as a
public charity. Contributions to the foundation are deductible from FederalIncome Tax under section 501
(c) (3).
