Red Bull Racing (RBR) is a Formula 1 team owned by Austrian beverage company Red Bull. Red Bull bought the team Jaguar Racing for about $ 110 million when the team’s parent company, Ford Motor Company, announced its withdrawal from the pinnacle of motorsport. Toro Rosso (“Red Bull” translated into Italian) is a second Formula 1 team, which also belongs to the brand of energy drinks.
The team’s origins date back to the team created by Jackie Stewart , Stewart Grand Prix, he played his first races in 1997. The team was bought by Ford and ran under the Jaguar name during the 2000 season of Formula 1. Despite the youth of the equipment compared to other manufacturers such as Ferrari and McLaren, it was considered a very successful start, a race won in 1999 . Despite the numerous technical and administrative changes (which included the hiring of high profile personalities such as Bobby Rahal and Niki Lauda), and the failed attempt to lure the designer Adrian Newey, the team never again reached the achievements of the era Stewart.
Following the disappointing results obtained by the team, Ford announced his retirement after the 2004 season in Formula 1. On November 15, 2004, Red Bull announced that the acquisition was finalized. During the 2005 season Formula 1, the team maintains Cosworth drivers. The first pilots of the team are David Coulthard and Christian Klien , who debuted in the 2005 season with both cars scoring in his first two races.
The owner of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz has tempted Austrian Gerhard Berger fellow (ex-pilot category, BMW Motorsport Director) to pass to lead the new team. On May 28, 2006 achieved his first podium finish of the story to David Coulthard in third place in the Monaco Grand Prix 2006.
